An Evening Wind-Down Routine for the End of a Long Day
Wash off the day, slow down, and give your skin some attention before bed. Ten minutes that double as your wind-down.

An evening skincare routine starts with removing makeup when needed, cleansing and moisturizing. Add toner or serum if you use them. Set aside about ten minutes for an unhurried version, or keep just the essentials on tired evenings.
Do it at the point in your evening when you still have the energy. After dinner can work just as well as right before bed.
Step 1: Set the scene (1 minute)
Before you touch your face, change the mood. Dim the big light and switch on a lamp. Put your phone on the charger in another room, or at least face down. If you like, put the kettle on for a cup of herbal tea to drink afterward.
It sounds small, but it turns “doing my skincare” into “the start of my evening.”
Step 2: Take off makeup (1–2 minutes)
If you wore makeup or sunscreen, remove it first. A cleansing balm, a cleansing oil or micellar water on a soft cotton pad all work. Hold the pad on your eyes for a few seconds to let mascara soften instead of rubbing.
If your regular cleanser removes what you wore today, use it on its own. Double cleansing is optional.
Step 3: Cleanse (1–2 minutes)
Wash gently with your usual cleanser. Dampen your skin with lukewarm water, massage a gentle cleanser in for 30 to 60 seconds, and rinse well. Take your time here; the massage is half the pleasure.
Pat dry with a clean towel.
Tip: Cleansing twice in a row, first to dissolve makeup and then with your regular cleanser, is called double cleansing. It’s handy on full-makeup days and optional the rest of the week.

Step 4: Tone and serum (2 minutes)
Use toner and serum if they are part of your routine, following their labels for amounts. With RENU Advanced, press about a teaspoon of Balancing Toner into face and neck, let it absorb, then smooth one or two pumps of Glow Serum over face, neck and décolletage (your upper chest).
Let each layer absorb before continuing. If time is short, skip an optional step instead of applying everything at once.
Step 5: Moisturize (1–2 minutes)
Finish with moisturizer, following its directions. For RENU Advanced Hydrating Cream, apply a pea-size amount to face, neck and décolletage with gentle upward, outward strokes.
If your skin feels dry, it’s fine to use a slightly richer cream at night than in the morning. The winter routine has more ideas for skin that feels tight.
Step 6: The rest of your wind-down
Skincare done, keep the calm going for a few more minutes:
- Drink your tea away from screens.
- Put a hand cream on while you’re at it. Hands get washed all day and rarely get attention.
- Lay out tomorrow, whether that’s clothes, a bag or a lunch, so the morning starts easier.
- Read a few pages of something that isn’t work.
None of this is complicated. The point is to do the same small things in the same order, so your evening has a clear, peaceful end.
A routine that’s already planned for you
If you’d like the skincare part to be one set rather than four separate choices, RENU Advanced is built for exactly this routine: foaming cleanser, balancing toner, glow serum and hydrating cream, used in that order. The cream comes in an airless jar; press the top and a small amount rises up, so you never dip your fingers in.

It’s fragrance-free, which suits an evening routine where the only scent in the room might be your tea or a candle.
Your 10-minute evening, in order
Coming home from an exercise class? Plan when to wash your face around a workout so your post-workout cleanse can lead naturally into your evening routine.
- Dim the lights and put the phone away.
- Remove makeup.
- Cleanse with lukewarm water.
- Press in toner.
- Smooth on serum.
- Finish with cream.
- Tea, a book, lights out.
If you want the same routine for mornings in a quicker form, the 5-minute morning routine helps you adapt the steps for daytime, including sunscreen.
Your evening cream may already be on the shelf: check whether the same moisturizer can work morning and night before choosing a separate night cream.
